Free School Meals Scheme – Summer Holidays 2021
16th July 2021
Solihull Council has received additional funding from a government grant and we are considering providing further food support to families of children in receipt of benefits-related free school meals, through the provision of supermarket vouchers.
If the funding is agreed then vouchers will be provided to children aged 3 – 17 in a Solihull publicly funded school (maintained school, Academy, or Free school) and all families currently receiving benefits-related free school meals will be contacted with full redemption details, via email or post. If you have already registered and are entitled to free school meals in Solihull, you will automatically receive your voucher and therefore do not need to contact the council. Confirmation of the distribution date and value per child, will be advised in early August following council approval at the end of July.
Should a voucher scheme be approved, this would enhance the recently launched Holiday Activity & Food Programme (HAF), which offers a range of activities during the summer holidays, from 24 providers across 32 locations – free places include a no cost healthy and tasty meal. The programme is for families in receipt of benefit-related free school meals, with chargeable places also available.
Information on HAF activities and providers, plus a full range of Summer Ofsted Registered Childcare providers and activities, are provided on the Family Information Service webpages, these include a variety of free and low cost activities/events, here. Details of the HAF programme are here
